How scarves are made...?
A
scarf
is basically a square, rectangular, or triangular piece of cloth
that is embellished with innovative designs and bright colors. The
first step in the manufacture of scarves is the choice of the
fabric; silk, cotton, or wool. Cotton is preferred for its softness
and easy maintenance. Wool is used in cases where the scarf is
required to provide warmth in cold weathers. Woolen scarves are
usually called mufflers and are worn around the neck. By far, the
most popular material for scarves is silk. Belisi scarves are made
of high quality silk and are created for both beauty and durability.
Silk is a fabric regarded for generations as a representation of
sophistication. Another reason why manufacturers tend to produce
scarves from a wide array of materials is that customer choices vary
depending on personal tastes and also on the fabric trends of the
other clothing items in their closets.
The making of a scarf is truly an art. After the material is chosen,
the adequate amount of cloth is cut taking into consideration the
intended size of the scarf. Large squares scarves have lengths more
than around 30 inches. Medium-sized scarves are approximately 24 to
29 inches long, while smaller squares are less around 18 to 24
inches long or smaller. Medium and large scarves are the ones that
are the most preferred as they can be used as shawls or stoles.
These relatively larger scarves can even double up as cravats or
bandanas when tied around the neck. Large scarves can double up as
halter blouses.
As
for oblong or rectangular scarves, the various sizes range from
around 10 to 55 inches. Now, after the scarf’s size is decided, the
raw material is cut into a rectangular, square, or triangular piece
slightly larger than the final dimensions of the scarf. The extra
fabric is cut to compensate for the border or edging for the scarf.
The amount of fabric required for the border depends on whether it
is a fringed edge or a finished edge. A fringed edge requires at
least 3 to 4 inches of extra material along the edge. In the case of
the fringed edge silk scarf, the seam needs to be rendered around 3
inches from the scarf’s edge. The edge beyond the seam can then be
used to create the fringe. A finished edge, on the other hand, needs
just around 2 inches of extra material along the periphery. This
edge is normally tightly rolled and firmly stitched into place.
Sometimes the edge is topstitched approximately 1/8 inch away from
the edge.
In
the edging, scarf manufacturers such as
Belisi Fashions
often emphasize on precision. A good test for the correct angular
orientation of the silk head scarf or any other scarf is folding the
scarf into half from any direction. The edges should perfectly
overlap. Designer silk scarves are especially made with the
customer’s tastes in mind. All
scarves
made across the world, whether they are long silk scarves or hip
scarves are made in the same way, the bottom-line being quality.
